Import bank CSV

Import lets you bring a batch of transactions into an account from a CSV file exported by your bank. Open it from the Import action on a Transactions screen.

  1. Pick a file — choose the .csv file exported from your bank.

  2. Map the columns — tell Munto how to read the file:

    • Delimiter: ;, ,, or tab
    • Decimal separator: , or .
    • Date format: DD/MM/YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD, or D/M/YYYY
    • Column mapping: Date and Amount are required; Payee and Description are optional

You can load a previously saved bank template instead of mapping from scratch, and save your current mapping as a new template — optionally set it as the default for this account.

  3. Preview — before anything is imported, Munto shows how many rows were found, how many look like duplicates, and how many will actually be imported, along with the net total and a preview of the first 20 rows.

Munto checks each row against your existing transactions and automatically skips ones it’s already imported. That means it’s safe to re-import the same file — for example if you export overlapping date ranges each time. Editing a transaction’s payee or category afterward doesn’t break this detection on future imports.

On the preview step, Munto suggests a category for each row based on your existing categories and how you’ve categorized similar payees before. High-confidence suggestions are highlighted. Suggested categories are applied automatically when you import, and you can clear all suggestions if you’d rather categorize manually afterward.
